Earlier this year I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Kelly & Gemma’s wedding day. These two lovely ladies were married at a private home in Taradale, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand. When we first met, along with their adorable son Ari, I knew they had something special and that this was a day I wanted to be part of! As this would be my first same sex wedding, I was over the moon that they chose to trust me to photograph this special celebration. And thankful to live in a country that acknowledges the right of people to be joined in marriage, no matter their gender. To know Kelly & Gemma is to know that true love doesn’t care about race, sex or status. That love is love. And love is all you need, right?
There were just so many things to love about this day. There was a personal connection in every detail. Friends and family provided the venue, the florals, and the cake. Even the celebrant, the lovely Fiona Cleary, was a friend from school days. The brides did a first look before the ceremony. Gemma stood on the front porch waiting for her soon-to-be-wife Kelly to come into view. In that moment they only had eyes for each other – totally oblivious to my lens and the four sneaky bridesmaids spying on them from downstairs. The wedding ceremony was intimate and heart-warming with each bride walking down the aisle accompanied by their Mother.
The only downside was a bit of drizzle. Quite a lot of drizzle to be honest. Maybe even a bit of rain. I’m just so glad this gorgeous group of girls didn’t let a bit of wet weather stop them from having the best day ever! Here are a few favourites from this incredible day…
